Phone Call

gentle words fall lightly, but with great weight

I am talking at great distance,
with a person I met this instant,
through a service matching folk,
alone at home around the globe.

At first I was nervous,
then many topics surfaced.
Not enough to talk about?
Quite the opposite, turns out.

We’re chatting about politics,
about the virus, were you sick?
What’s it like where you are?
Sharing stories, some bizarre.

Africa or Canada,
east and west alike.
I wish to each good rest this night,
knowing we are not alone,
sharing home around the globe.
