The Letter

words of weight to balance the scale

The guy that you want, the cause of all this, entered the restaurant quarter past six. Made his escape into first light. My love was lost to the boy that night.

There’s no point, no measure of gain, in recalling the blood. Her thrashing in pain. Her warm form filling my arms with grief. And your brother’s eyes—those of a thief.

This is the letter no father would want to write, but that in some measure it sets matters right. Every best wish, may you always prevail. And may the weight of these words help balance the scale.
