the voice nearby is the one best heard above the noise
Korin and Iris are children of the virus. A small crown that brought a silent spring and social distancing as a way of life. A spring without parties at pools. Without schools or sports or concerts. Cautious shopping. Inventive flirting. Parents having a hard time working.
A spring forward to inward growth against a background of social upheaval. A crown too small to see defined their lives. It reset the boundaries of an old word. Civility. Curiously, not for the worse. Except at first. At first, fear and hoarding took hold under selfish kings.
Old men overthrown by the basic kindness that defines us. The together kind of us, in you and me and Korin and Iris. Who lost reliance on voices in the distance and discovered the near home. Neighbours and local interests. Caring for us. By us, Korin and Iris.
