Baby Driver

a sense of direction helps in life

Switch on the camera. Put on a sonata.
Eyes on the road, don’t listen back here.
Don’t talk unless asked. Steady, don’t pass.
Be mindful: the cargo, two passengers here.

This is it, the big one. This is my first one.
It helps in life to have a sense of direction.
Open the glove box; can’t open the trunk.
Hard to think, the screaming’s so much.

Some cop pulls up and points: pull over.
I thumb to the back, giving them up.
Car to the pool. Maintenance issued.
Thanks she whispers, baby delivered.

Frederic Chopin, Piano Sonata No. 2
